Black Stars forward, Inaki Williams happens to be the senior brother of Nico Williams, and has dug deep into why the latter’s highly-anticipated move to FC Barcelona didn’t happen and even said majority of the speculations was just fallacy
Nico Williams, has been a hot-cake on the transfer market for two seasons having popped up on the radar of series of clubs including Arsenal, Bayern Munich and FC Barcelona
This is on the back of how impressive the 22-year-old has been, with 44 goal-involvements in the last two seasons and also his heroics at the 2024 European Championship with eventual winners Spain
In the ongoing summer transfer window, Nico was strongly linked to FC Barcelona with many a football faithful stating the move was done but surprisingly the player signed a new contract with Athletic Bilbao and will now stay at the San Mamerse until 2035
Speaking in a recent interview, Inaki, who has now been named the captain of the Lions ahead of the upcoming season, said majority of the comments made surrounding his brothers speculated move to FC Barcelona were all false
"A lot of lies have been told. We all know how football works and the pressure they wanted to exert. Barça ran a media campaign that they thought would work. That external noise has done a lot of damage and has tainted the situation." He said.
Both Inaki and Nico Williams have started their preseason hoping to have good one to get them ready for the 2025/26 La Liga season
