Several Ghanaians expressed disapproval of Joseph Paintsil's decision to join the MLS, asserting that the league is often seen as a retirement option, suggesting that young players should avoid moving there as it could signify the decline of their careers.

The 26-year-old forward has dismissed that narrative, stating that the league is highly competitive and not easy to play in, mentioning that many players from Europe are likely to fail in that league.

"It's not as easy as people think. People say it is a retirement league but trust me a lot of Europeans can go there and can really flop in the first season," he told Joy Sports.

He stated that the MLS should not be overlooked, noting that since prominent players like Messi, Riqui Puig, Giroud, and Busquets, along with other European stars, have joined the league, it has made the championship more exciting.

"So it is not a league that should be taken for granted. It is a league that really is really serious about making an impact in the world.

"You have the likes of Messi, you have the likes of Busquets, a whole lot of players. Giroud, Marco Reus, Riqui Puig. There are a lot of great players there so it is interesting now to play in the MLS," he added.

Painstil had a remarkable first season in the league, netting 14 goals that contributed to LA Galaxy securing their sixth championship title.
