Xabi deployed the right-back in a more advanced role, right wing-back position against Schalke.
Frimpong has scored four goals in nine games in the league so far.
The exciting lad has assisted twice in three UEFA Champions League outings.
He was red-carded in Leverkusen's 2:0 lost to FC Porto on Tuesday.
The 21-year-old is yet to officially feature for the senior level of Ghana, England or Holland.
Bayern Leverkusen are 14th with eight points after nine games.
