Ghana defender Mohammed Salisu's Southampton resumed competitive football on Tuesday night when they beat Lincoln City 2-1 in the fourth round of the EFL Cup at the St Mary's Stadium.
New Saints head coach Nathan Jones handed a starting role to the robust Black Stars centre-back as they progressed to the quarter finals of the competition.
Southampton was punished just two minutes into the match when goalkeeper Gavin Bazunu failed to deal with Ainsley Maitland-Niles sliced clearance as the ball slotted into his own net.
Saints forward Ché Zach Adams responded well and scored two goals in the 25th and 74th minutes respectively to propel Southampton through.
Salisu who was part of Ghana's World Cup squad which was held in Qatar was replaced in the 63rd minute by Stuart Armstrong.
