Kenyan heavyweights Gor Mahia FC have announced Ghanaian gaffer Charles Kwablan Akonnor as their new head coach with Bismark Kobi-Mensah as his assistant, ahead of the upcoming season
The 51-year-old is joining the twenty-one time Kenyan champions on a two-year deal after a fruitful negotiation and this how an official club statement on social media reads;
“We are delighted to announce the appointment of Charles Akonnor from Ghana as our new head coach on a two-year contract effective today, Friday, August 1st.
“The former Ghana Black Stars manager brings a wealth of experience, both as a top-level player and a seasoned tactician, making him the ideal leader to guide us into a new era of success”
He will be assisted by his compatriots; Bismark Kobi Mensah and Ben Owu as the goalkeeper’s coach
CK Akonnor will be stepping in as replacement for Zedekiah Otieno and Michael Nam, who got jettisoned at the end of last season after a trophy-less campaign and is expected to patch all cracks to rise up the team back to where they belong.
The experienced tactician has been out of action since his jettisoning as Black Stars head coach in 2021, and has so much experience and exposure in the Ghana Premier League having handled clubs like Sekondi Eleven Wise, Dreams FC, AshantiGold SC and the two giants; Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko.
