The 24-year-old defender of Ghanaian origin has completed his transfer switch to the German third division side ahead of the summer transfer window
German-born Ghanaian defender Nyamekye Awortwie-Grant has joined 3. Liga side FC Energie Cottbus from fouth-tier outfit Stuttgarter Kickers for the 2025-26 campaign, the club have confirmed.
The former TSG Balingen guardsman is joining the Die Lausitzer on a free transfer after mutually parting ways with his former employers following the activation of his exit clause in his contract.
An official confirmation over Nyamekye signing read: ''FC Energie has signed Nyamekye Awortwie-Grant, its second new signing for the upcoming 2025/2026 season. The 1.93m tall central defender is moving from Stuttgarter Kickers to Cottbus.''
Head coach Claus-Dieter Wollitz was full of encomium for the Ghanaian defender right after landing his signature ahead of the new football season, telling his club's official website: ''Over the course of the season, especially in the second half of the season, we noticed that our team lacked size and heading ability in many situations. We want to work on this and create a more balanced team in this regard. Nyamekye not only brings heading ability, but also demonstrates qualities in terms of organization, positioning, and tackling that fit our game plan.''
Before sealing his move to the Stadion der Freundschaft, Nyamekye featured in 22 games by scoring and assisting once for Stuttgarter Kickers across all competitions in the just ended campaign.
