The 29-year-old midfield enforcer of Ghanaian heritage has completed his transfer switch to the German third-tier outfit from the elite division side in this winter transfer window

German-born Ghanaian midfielder Ruben Reisig has joined 3. Liga club Rot-Weiss Essen from Bundesliga side TSG Hoffenheim on a two-and-a-half-year contract, the club have confirmed.

The 1.93 metre tall enforcer is linking up with the Stadion an der Hafenstraße outfit from the reserve side of the Die Kraichgauer after passing his mandatory medical examinations early today and has now been handed a shirt number 6.

A portion of a statement confirming the signing of the gangling defensive midfielder reads: ''Rot-Weiss Essen has strengthened its squad with the signing of Ruben Reisig. The 1.93-meter-tall midfielder successfully completed his medical examination with RWE, signed his new contract in Essen today, and joins the club with immediate effect from TSG Hoffenheim's reserve team. He will wear the number 16 jersey for RWE.''

The Ghana-prospect enforcer has told the club's official website: ''When the offer from RWE came, I didn't have to think twice. The club has an enormous appeal and power that you can feel throughout the entire league. This is reflected in the club's structure, its intense style of play, and the incredible fans who support the team week after week, both at home and away. I was able to see this for myself during the first half of the season. I'm very happy to be here and to get to know the team. I'll give it my all at Hafenstraße as soon as possible.

Director of football Marcus Steegmann added: ''With Ruben, we're getting a physically strong defensive midfielder. He brings the right dynamism, mentality, and tackling ability to our Hafenstraße style of play. His strong heading ability can be an advantage for us both defensively and offensively. Especially within the context of Hoffenheim's young team, he assumed a key leadership role and brought stability and direction to the team. All these qualities convinced us that Ruben is an ideal addition to our squad. He will expand our options in midfield.”

Prior to sealing his transfer move to his current employers, Ruben took in 18 appearances for TSG Hoffenheim ll in this season's 3. Liga contest.

Given his Ghanaian heritage, the Prien am Chiemsee-native still remains fit to play for Ghana at the international level.
