The defender of Ghanaian heritage has completed his switch to the German second division side ahead of the upcoming summer transfer window

German 2. Bundesliga side Schalke 04 have signed German-born Ghanaian left-back Anton Donkor, the club have confirmed, with the contract set to come to a close in June 2027.

The ex-Everton U23 loanee is joining the Gelsenkirchen club on a free transfer from fellow lower division outfit Eintracht Braunschweig this summer.

"Anton Donkor is Schalke’s first summer signing ahead of the 2024/25 season. The left-back has penned a contract until 2027 with the Royal Blues," a confirmation over his signing reads.

The talented fullback had this to say right after inking the deal with the Royal Blues; "I’m looking forward to playing for Schalke next season. The leadership team made a good impression and showed me their interesting plans for the years to come."

Sporting director Marc Wilmots voiced his excitement over the capturing of the 26-year-old former Hansa Rostock man; " Anton is a very assertive player who is strong in the tackle and can put his pace to good use at both ends of the pitch.“He has continually improved over the past few seasons and has firmly established himself in the 2. Bundesliga."

He still remains eligible to switch allegiance and play for Ghana at the international level despite playing for the Germany U18 & U20 national youth teams.
