Ghana and RB Salzburg youngster, Forson Amankwah has expressed how excited he was to finally make his UEFA Champions League debut and has described that moment as a dream come true for him.
The 20-year-old joined Austrian giants Red Bull Salzburg in 2021 after an impressive spell with Ghanaian side West African Football Academy and spent two loan spells at Liefering and Rheindorf Altach.
He played incredibly well during the loan spells and got a call back to return to his parent club at the Red Bull Arena and has been great so far since his arrival and in the ongoing season.
In a recent interview with Flashscore, the versatile attacker disclosed how he's been an admirer of the UEFA Champions League since he was young and was always dreaming for such an opportunity which he's now described as a dream come true.
“I think the Champions League is every player's dream to play because it's the topmost competition in the world. I grew up wanting to play in the Champions League and I was thrilled the night I made my debut against Real Sociedad. Being part of the squad in the competition was a good experience but unfortunately, we were knocked out.”
“We were so disappointed because we put so much energy to at least make it to the Europa League play-offs, but it couldn’t happen for us. But it was also a good experience for us to learn about the Champions League so next time we could make things better.”
He finally made his dream debut in the biggest club football competition against La Liga side Real Sociedad on October 3, in a game he was introduced in the second half.
He went on to make four appearances in the competition but unfortunately RB Salzburg had to exit the competition after the first round.
He's netted four in all competitions so far this season and will hope to better his numbers as the season progresses.
Forson Amankwah made Ghana's provisional 55-man squad for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations and hopes to make the final cut which is expected to come out next week.
