French Ligue 1 side RC Strasbourg have rejected Sevilla's offer for Ghanaian centre-back Alexander Djiku, Kickgh.com can reveal.
The Spanish club presented Strasbourg with an opening £2m offer that fell well below the Blue-and-Whites' asking price.
French newspaper L'Équipe have confirmed that Strasbourg wasted no time in turning down the bid and have made it clear to Djiku - whose contract expires at the end of this season - that he will not be sold this winter unless any team meets their asking price, which is understood to be in excess of £5m.
Kickgh.com understands that sources close to the situation have confirmed that lines of communication remain open between the two clubs, however, with Sevilla still looking to strike a deal soon.
While Strasbourg have clarified their stance on a sale to Djiku, Stade de la Meinau chiefs are also understood to have informed the 28-year-old that talks over a contract extension are still in line and they are prepared to sit down and iron out a new deal at any point.
