Black Stars forward Inaki Williams played a part in Athletic Club's narrow 1-0 away defeat at Atletico Madrid last Saturday night in round 26 of the Spanish La Liga.
The game was really a very tough one as both teams took the game at each other and created series of chances but Julian Alvarez's 66th minute goal made the difference for the homesters after full time.
Inaki, as usual was included in manager Ernesto Valverde's starting line up and lasted the entire duration alongside his younger brother Nico Williams but still fell short at the Wanda Metropolitano.
With both teams constituting the top four in the league log, the Rojiblancos have now opened a two-point lead at the summit while the Lions remain fourth with 48 points.
Speaking on Movistar in a post-match interview, the lanky striker rues their wasteful chances as it is obviously the main cause of their defeat and added they were unlucky in the game.
"I think we deserved much more. We had more chances, but this is not about deserving them but about scoring them. We were unlucky. We created chances on a difficult pitch, but it wasn't to be," Williams told Movistar after the match.
"It's a shame, we deserved much more. Atletico are fighting to win the league, we were very keen to maintain the four-point advantage over Villarreal. Now we have to wait and see what they do,"
Inaki Williams has five goals and eight assists in 25 La Liga matches so far this campaign and will hope to make coach Otto Addo's squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Chad and Madagascar later this month.
