Ghana's captain, Andre Ayew, has urged his teammates to persevere and defy the expectations of those who have counted out the Black Stars.
Despite being four-time AFCON champions, the team is no longer considered among the tournament's favorites in the 2023 edition.
Addressing the media before their match against Cape Verde, Ayew acknowledged that the Black Stars must embrace their altered status in the competition. Yet, he emphasized the unpredictable nature of the tournament, asserting that it presents an opportune moment for his team to spring a surprise.
"In this tournament, you can’t predict anything, and when the doors are open for everyone, we need to slide in. We don’t have to give any chances, and I believe that the squad is determined. Our vision is to win the next game, and from then we will see how to take it to the next one," remarked Andre Ayew confidently.
Ghana is set to face Cape Verde in Group B of the 2023 AFCON, with the match scheduled to kick off at 8pm at the Stade Félix Houphouët-Boigny in Abidjan on Monday, January 14.
