New Edubiase United and Hohoe United played to a thrilling 2-2 tie in the opening game of Group A's match-day two of the 2024 Division One League (DOL) Super Cup on Thursday.
With a goal in the seventh minute of play, Philip Amo gave New Edubiase United a solid start to the match. Amo scored his team's first goal early on after dribbling past two Hohoe United defenders to get in the goal.
Prince Ofori had a fantastic chance to extend New Edubiase's lead five minutes later, but his effort missed the mark after an exquisite feed from Owusu Ansah.
Unfazed, Hohoe United retaliated, using their captain, Safianu Usman, who was skillfully set up by William Oduro, to level.
Oduro skillfully dribbled past New Edubiase's defenders to create the chance. On the stroke of halftime, Hohoe United capitalized on a defensive error by New Edubiase, with Kwadwo Boamah scoring to put them ahead 2-1.
The match saw a significant twist when New Edubiase's Umar Mohammed received a second yellow card, leaving his team a man down.
However, New Edubiase managed to hold their own in the second half. The numerical advantage for Hohoe United was short-lived, as Kwame Paul also received a red card, leveling the playing field.
New Edubiase's persistence paid off when substitute Obed Asamoah won a penalty, which he expertly converted to bring his team level at 2-2. Both teams shared the spoils after a fiercely contested match.
