Young Lorient defender Nathaniel Adjei has received his first call-up to the Black Stars for the upcoming 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers against Angola and Niger.

Adjei, who has been a standout performer in France’s Ligue 2 this season, making nine consistent appearances, has now earned the opportunity to represent Ghana at the senior level under head coach Otto Addo.

Although he was previously named in the squad for friendlies against Nigeria and Uganda earlier this year, an injury forced him to withdraw. Now fully recovered, the 22-year-old, originally from Teshie, is set to make his competitive debut for the national team.

Ghana faces a daunting task in the qualifiers, needing to secure victories in both matches—starting with Angola on November 15 in Luanda, followed by a crucial encounter with Niger three days later.

Even with two wins, Ghana’s qualification for AFCON 2025 will depend on Sudan’s results, as Sudan must lose all their remaining matches for Ghana to qualify.

Adjei’s inclusion strengthens the Black Stars’ defensive options, but the young defender will need to prove his worth on the international stage as he looks to make a mark in Ghana’s challenging AFCON campaign.
