Young-sensation Abdul Aziz Issah has been handed his first Black Stars call-up ahead of the much-anticipated 2025 Unity Cup tournament in the United Kingdom
Aziz, alongside Black Satellites teammate Aaron Essel, West Ham United goalie Joseph Tetteh Annang, are all debutants who will be joining the Ghana senior men national team for the first time
The 19-year-old joined Barça Atlétic in the last summer transfer window on loan and the agreement includes a purchase option for the club at the end of the season but that clause couldn't get triggered
The mercurial playmaker started life very well at FC Barcelona where he got invited to the first team by Hansi Flick for couple of training sessions before subsequently featuring in their next two matches against Real Sociedad B and Nastic - all with cameo appearances
He has since really struggled to game playing time as he was at some point not in the coaches plan and was left out of matchday squad on number of occasions
But his outstanding performance for the Black Satellites at the just-ended Africa U-20 Cup of Nations caught the eyes of coach Otto Addo who has included him in the Black Stars squad for the next assignment
Ghana will begin their Unity Cup campaign with a high-profile encounter against Nigeria on Tuesday, May 28, at the Gtech Community Stadium in Brentford. The winner of that semifinal will progress to the final on May 31, while the loser will contest the third-place playoff earlier the same day.
The Black Stars are scheduled to officially open camp on Sunday, May 25, in Accra before travelling. The tournament is part of Ghana's build-up to their next 2026 World Cup qualifying matches against Chad and Mali in September.
