Ghana midfielder Thomas Partey has opened up following the Black Stars' elimination from the ongoing 2026 FIFA World Cup staged across Canada, Mexico and the United States.
The four-time African champions exited the tournament after a round of 32 defeat to Colombia in Kansas City last Friday.
The ex-Arsenal enforcer's participation at the tournament was shrouded with controversies leading to his inability to travel to Canada for the opening game against Panama.
However, the 33-year-old recovered from the disappointment and became one of Ghana's best players at the tournament, featuring in all three games in the United States.
While Partey admits his disappointment, he believes the team will bounce back even stronger ahead of future international assignments.
"This wasn’t the way we wanted our World Cup journey to end. The disappointment is hard to put into words because we believed we were capable of so much more," he posted on Instagram.
"Representing Ghana on the biggest stage in football has been one of the greatest honours of my career. Every time I wear this shirt, I gave everything I had, and that’s something I’ll always be proud of.
"To all the Ghanaians who supported us throughout this journey THANK YOU. Your passion, belief and unwavering support never went unnoticed. I felt it every step of the way. Football can be cruel, but setbacks are part of the game. We’ll take the lessons, keep working, and come back stronger."
The Black Stars will now switch their attention to the upcoming 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
