Former Ghana international Nii Odartey Lamptey has urged the Black Stars interim technical team to be bold and include Ghana Premier League players in the squad for their upcoming 2027 AFCON qualifiers against Somalia.

Ghana will face Somalia on November 12 and 16, with both matches expected to be played in the country. The interim technical team, led by Kim Lars Björkegren and assisted by Ibrahim Tanko and Godwin Attram, is expected to announce its squad this week.

Speaking on Asempa FM's Ultimate Sports Show, Odartey Lamptey said the coaches have enough experience to trust local players.

"Godwin Attram has been with the team, while Kim Lars Björkegren has also been with the team before," he said.

"The experience of Ibrahim Tanko cannot be overlooked, and so if they feel they can include local players in the squad for the games, they should be bold and do that.

"During my time with the national team, we had more local players in the squad than players playing in Europe.

"They should not be scared about that decision; rather, they should be bold and make that decision," he added.

Former Ghana goalkeeper Fatawu Dauda is also part of the interim technical team as goalkeepers trainer.

The Black Stars are under pressure after losing their opening Group C matches 2-0 to Côte d'Ivoire and 4-2 to The Gambia, leaving them bottom of the group without a point.

After failing to qualify for the 2025 AFCON in Morocco, Ghana will be eager to beat Somalia in both matches and increase their chances of qualifying for the 2027 tournament.
