Former Black Stars captain, Asamoah Gyan, remains Africa’s top scorer at the FIFA World Cup and was present at the draw for the 2026 edition where he described Ghana’s group as a very tricky one.

Ghana will better battling it out with England, Croatia and Panama in the 2026 FIFA World Cup after the much-awaited draw for the tournament was held at J.F Kennedy Center in Washington D.C, USA.

Ghana is making its fifth appearance at the global showpiece and the team is hoping to make a meaningful impact in the tournament slated to be hosted in USA, Canada and Mexico.

Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand was joined by broadcaster Samantha Johnson and a host of sporting greats, including Tom Brady, Wayne Gretzky, Aaron Judge and Shaquille O'Neal for the draw.

Many believe the Black Stars have been handed a tricky draw and might tend to struggle with elimination while others firmly believe they will make it to the knockout phase.

Gyan, who has six goals at the Mundial agrees that it’s a very tricky balloting but is very optimistic the four-time African champions can still sail through

“It's a very tricky group. Everyone back home wants us to qualify so we will do our possible best to qualify. We are optimistic.”

The competition will run from June 11 to July 19, 2026.
