David Ocloo, the assistant coach of Asante Kotoko, expressed his belief that Richmond Lamptey's call-up to the Black Stars would significantly enhance the team's quality, echoing the sentiments of football fans impressed by Lamptey's performances in the ongoing 2023/24 Ghana Premier League season.

"Inclusion of the midfielder in Ghana's squad for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) is a positive add-on to the team’s quality," Ocloo remarked, acknowledging the widespread advocacy for Lamptey's inclusion.

Following Lamptey's noteworthy display in a goalless draw against Great Olympics on Sunday, Ocloo, in a post-game interview, endorsed the calls for Lamptey's inclusion in the Black Stars, emphasizing the player's exceptional qualities. Ocloo stated, “Richmond Lamptey is a fantastic player, and you can all see his contribution to the team. It will be an add-on to the Black Stars.”

With the deadline for squad list submissions for the 2023 AFCON set for January 3, 2024, the potential absence of Thomas Partey due to injury and the perceived lack of creativity in the team have intensified the calls for Lamptey's inclusion.

Ocloo's endorsement aligns with the growing consensus that Lamptey's skills and performance make him a valuable asset to the Black Stars. The midfielder's potential contribution is particularly crucial as Ghana aims to secure its fifth continental title in Group B, alongside Egypt, Cape Verde, and Mozambique in the upcoming AFCON.
