Black Stars coach Otto Addo has provided a detailed explanation behind his decision to strip Alexander Djiku of his role as deputy captain of the national team.

In excerpts from his technical report on the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), shared by Angel FM, Addo revealed his dissatisfaction with the commitment of the Turkey-based defender, particularly citing an issue regarding Djiku’s reporting time for the team’s game against Sudan in Accra.

According to the report, Otto Addo was disappointed after Djiku claimed that he had a game on Saturday, delaying his arrival for the match. However, Addo and the technical team later discovered that Djiku had no match scheduled for that weekend. This deceit led to Addo’s decision to relieve Djiku of his deputy captaincy role.

The game against Sudan, played on October 15, ended in a goalless draw, and the Black Stars followed up with a loss in Libya. Ghana’s failure to qualify for the 2025 AFCON, finishing bottom of Group F with three draws and three losses, has left Addo’s future as head coach uncertain.
