Black Stars head coach, Chris Hughton is satisfied with the spirit of his charges who fought really hard to earn a draw against Angola in Luanda in the 2023 AFCON qualifiers.
The Black Stars completed a better head to head over the Black Antelopes after holding them to a 1-1 stalemate last Monday, March 27, at the Estadio 11 de Novembro in an epic match-day four clash.
The homesters drew first blood through Lucas Joao who scored from the spot but substitute Osman Bukari rose from the bench to score with his first touch to cancel out his lead and also to rescue Ghana from a defeat.
Four points for Chris Hughton in his opening two games has tremendously kept the four time African champions at the summit of Group E with 8 points, but are still yet to confirm their qualification to the next AFCON.
In a post-match presser, the experience tactician heaped praises on the Angolans for their explosive attacking play but added he was satisfied with the outcome.
"Angola has some very good technical players, especially in the attacking areas. So we knew that defensively we will have to be good and we would have to be solid. Because they are such a good expansive technical team we wanted to use the spaces and attack fast.
“I thought once they scored the penalty it gave us a lift, inspiration to get back into the game, and its normal that Angola dropped maybe a little bit deeper. I think we proved we have big spirit in the team and in both games scoring late goals,” Coach Chris Hughton told the media."
Ghana will travel to Madagascar in the next round of matches in the qualifiers in June.
