Techiman Eleven Wonders FC and Bofoakwa Tano FC, two former Premier League teams, will clash in the Access Bank Division One League play-off final at the Accra Sports Stadium on Tuesday, May 30, 2023. Eleven Wonders suffered relegation last season, while their opponents, Bofoakwa Tano, a historic Ghanaian football club, have been absent from the elite level since the 2006/07 season and see this as a significant opportunity to make a comeback.
Bofoakwa Tano FC engaged in a closely contested battle with Young Apostles for a place in the championship. A spirited second-round performance propelled them to a 15-point lead in Zone One B, securing their qualification four weeks ago with a total of 63 points.
Bofoakwa Tano won 20 matches, lost 5, and drew 3 out of their 28 league matches, demonstrating their superiority over Young Apostles, Wamanafo Mighty Royals, and Nkoranza Warriors to secure the sole qualification ticket in the zone. The team from Sunyani is eagerly anticipating their first Premier League qualification in 16 years. Striker Sakaa Dauda finished the season as joint top scorer with 9 goals, sharing the spot with Amponsah Aveo (Berekum Arsenal) and Bismark Kyeremeh of Wamanafo Mighty Royals.
Known for their rich history in Ghana's domestic football scene, Bofoakwa Tano FC previously won the SWAG Cup in 1975 and has produced several notable players such as Kwesi Owusu (a member of the 1978 Africa Cup of Nations-winning team), Osei Boateng, Joseph Derchie, Dan Owusu (top scorer of the league in 1974, 1975, and 1976), and Opoku Sampene, who later played for Asante Kotoko.
Techiman Eleven Wonders emerged victorious in a competitive battle against Debibi United and Steadfast FC, accumulating 52 points from 28 matches, five points ahead of Debibi United, to top Zone One A. After suffering relegation last season, they are determined to make a swift return to the Premier League.
Eleven Wonders concluded the campaign with two of their players occupying the top two spots in the top scorers chart in Zone One A. Andrews Kumah finished as the top scorer with 10 goals, propelling the club to the first-place position, while Osman Zackaria netted 8 goals to secure the second-place spot.
The match is scheduled for a 3pm kickoff and will be broadcast live on Max TV, as well as streamed on the Facebook and YouTube pages of the Ghana Football Association.
