Former Black Stars defender, now assistant coach, John Paintsil has given update on how the squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup will look like having stated doors are opened for every eligible Ghanaian.
The four-time African champions failed to make it to the just-ended AFCON which got the Ghanaian football fans very agitated but made amends with a super performance; winning eight from ten matches to qualify for their fifth FIFA World Cup.
Ghana have been housed in Group L alongside 1966 champions England, 2018 finalists Croatia and Panama.
With the squad set to be announced very soon, many Ghanaians are very much eager on players the country will parade for the Mundial and this conversation has really divided opinions in the past few months.
Speaking on Accra-based Asempa FM, the former West Ham and Fulham defender who is now part of coach Otto Addo’s back room staff says there will be lots of surprises in the squad for the 2026 World Cup.
"We are focused on both local and international players for the Black Stars' World Cup squad. Every Ghanaian who qualifies to play is welcome, but there will be a lot of surprises."
The Black Stars as part of preparations will regroup for the first time this year to play Austria and Germany in pre-World Cup friendlies in the March international window
