In the aftermath of Chris Hughton's dismissal, German tactician Jurgen Kohler is emerging as the top candidate for the vacant Black Stars coaching position.

The former World Cup winner with Germany in 1990 has signaled strong interest in the role and has formally submitted his application well ahead of the Ghana Football Association's (GFA) deadline on February 2, 2024.

With an extensive coaching career spanning over 15 years, Kohler holds a UEFA Pro License certificate, making him a well-qualified contender for the position. His managerial experience includes leading clubs such as FC Viktoria Koln, where he recently concluded his last role. Kohler has also served as the Manager of the German U21 team, Director of Football at Bayern Leverkusen, Manager at MSV Duisburg, and Director of Football at vfR Aalen.

Sources indicate that the GFA is impressed with his CV and has initiated contact with Kohler, and the Executive Committee is set to convene on January 30, 2024, to deliberate on his potential appointment.

In addition to his coaching prowess, Kohler's illustrious playing career included stints with renowned clubs such as Juventus, Borussia Dortmund, and Bayern Munich.

Now, at 58 years old, he brings a distinctive blend of leadership skills, discipline, and a proven track record in team reconstruction, organization, and the development of young talent.

Particularly noteworthy are Kohler's achievements with the German U21 team, where he successfully reformed and revamped the team's structure, contributing significantly to German football and ensuring that promising players earned call-ups to the senior national team.
