Panama head coach Thomas Christiansen Tarín has emerged as one of the candidates interested in taking over as the next head coach of the Ghana national team, according to reports from GHANAsoccernet.com.
The Danish-Spanish tactician has reportedly applied for the vacant Black Stars position as the Ghana Football Association (GFA) intensifies efforts to appoint a new leader for the senior national team.
Christiansen becomes the latest coach to show interest in the role following the departure of Carlos Queiroz, who left his position after Ghana’s difficult start to the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign.
The 53-year-old already has experience facing Ghana on the international stage, having led Panama against the Black Stars at the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Ghana secured a narrow 1-0 victory in a closely fought encounter between the two nations.
His familiarity with Ghana’s strengths and the demands of international football could be an advantage as the GFA evaluates the various options available.
Christiansen boasts a diverse coaching background, having managed clubs across Europe, including Cypriot sides AEK Larnaca and APOEL Nicosia, as well as English Championship club Leeds United.
He also coached Belgian outfit Union Saint-Gilloise from July 2019 to May 2020 before moving into international management.
The former Barcelona B player has built a reputation as a tactically flexible coach with the ability to organise competitive teams and adapt to different football environments.
His work with Panama has further enhanced his profile, giving him valuable experience in international competitions and at the highest level of the game.
However, any potential move to Ghana would depend on discussions with the Panamanian Football Federation and the final decision of the Black Stars coaching search committee.
The joint five-member committee formed by the GFA and the Ghana Government is currently assessing applications before recommending the next coach for appointment.
The incoming Black Stars boss will face the challenge of rebuilding confidence around the national team while meeting the expectations of Ghanaian supporters ahead of upcoming qualifiers and major tournaments.
