The Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA) has confirmed that a Top Four Tournament will be held ahead of the start of the 2026/27 football season.
This year’s competition will feature only the clubs that finished in the top four of the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League campaign.
Reigning Ghana Premier League champions Medeama SC will compete alongside Bibiani Gold Stars, Hearts of Oak and Dreams FC for the pre-season title, while Asante Kotoko miss out after finishing eighth on the league table.
GHALCA Administrative Manager Oduro Nyarko explained that participation is based solely on league standings, dismissing suggestions that other clubs could be invited.
“Participation will be limited to the clubs that finished first to fourth in the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League. As a result, Nations FC, despite qualifying for the CAF Confederation Cup, will not take part because they did not finish in the league’s top four,” he told Akoma FM
The annual tournament is expected to provide the four clubs with valuable preparations ahead of the new season, with Medeama also using the competition to fine-tune their squad before beginning their CAF Champions League campaign.
