Former Ghanaian football star Augustine Ahinful has contested claims suggesting that Dreams FC's performance in the CAF Confederation Cup is a clear indicator of an upward trajectory for football in the country.
Despite Dreams FC's notable debut campaign in the CAF inter-club competitions, culminating in a semifinal appearance, Ahinful asserts that attributing their success solely to local football standards' improvement oversimplifies the challenges faced by Ghanaian clubs.
"Our football has gone down, and we all know but Dreams FC have done very well, and we commend them for what they've done. As to the impact on Ghana football, there are a lot of factors that will come in to make sure that our football gets to where we expect it," the former Ashgold and Borussia Dortmund striker told Graphic Sports.
Dreams FC, also known as the "Still Believe lads," experienced a mixed performance in the Confederation Cup, culminating in a 3-0 defeat at the hands of Zamalek SC after a goalless draw in the first leg in Cairo.
Despite this setback, Dreams FC's journey continues, as they secure a spot in the MTN FA Cup semifinals, fueling hopes for further continental success in the future.
