The English Premier League powerhouse have handed a trial opportunity to the highly-rated Ghanaian young midfielder for a potential long-term contract this summer.
Ghana U17 star Fatawu Ganiwu is currently undergoing trials at Chelsea and has been training with the club's U18 and U21 sides for the past week.
Ganiwu is said to have impressed massively during a friendly game between Chelsea U18 team and Sheffield United this week, which ended 1-1.
He has attracted interest from several clubs in Europe and has had trials in the past with clubs like RC Lens and RB Leipzig.
The 16-year-old made the headlines when he dazzled in his first tournament with Red Bull Salzburg’s youth team in Brazil, helping the Austrian outfit finish second at the FAM Cup youth championship.
RB Salzburg offered him a deal, however his agency Louis Bell, Fa Sport opted against the move following some clauses in the proposed contract.
The hugely talented central midfielder is reported to have caught Chelsea's attention following his outstanding performances for the Ghana U16 team at the UEFA Youth Championship in Serbia earlier this year.
Chelsea reveal big plans for Fatawu Ganiwu
Ganiwu played a pivotal role as the Black Starlets won the tournament, beating Serbia, Spain, and Switzerland. Chelsea are increasingly signing talent directly from African academies, with co-director of recruitment and talent Joe Shields involved in Ganiwu’s deal.
It has also been reported that if Ganiwu's trial is successful, he will be loaned out to Chelsea’s partner club Strasbourg in France.
