Brazilian club Grêmio FBPA have blocked Francis Amuzu from joining the Black Stars for Ghana’s upcoming international friendly against Mexico national football team.

According to reports from journalist Filipe Duarte, the Brazilian side received notification that the winger was expected to report to Ghana’s training camp on Thursday, May 14.

However, Grêmio reportedly refused to release the player, pointing to the late timing of the invitation and the club’s demanding fixture schedule against Confiança, Bahia, Palestino, and Santos.

The decision comes at a major moment in Amuzu’s international career, with the 26-year-old having recently received his maiden Black Stars call-up under new Ghana coach Carlos Queiroz.

Born in Ghana but raised in Belgium, Amuzu represented Belgium at youth level and had previously declined an invitation to play for Ghana in 2022, maintaining at the time that his international future remained with the European nation.

However, the winger recently switched allegiance and was expected to finally begin his journey with the Black Stars before Grêmio’s intervention.

The friendly against Mexico forms part of Ghana’s preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup in North America, with Queiroz hoping to assess several new faces ahead of the tournament.
