In an interview with Onua Sport, Samuel Osei Kuffour, who achieved CAF Champions League success with Hearts of Oak, expressed his opinion that Andre Ayew's time with the Black Stars has come to an end. Instead, he advocated for the inclusion of emerging talents like Kudus Mohammed.
Kuffour, fondly known as "The General" during his playing days, attributed his recommendation to Ayew's long tenure with the national team. While acknowledging Ayew's experience and contributions, he stressed the importance of making room for younger players to showcase their abilities on the international stage.
"Andre Ayew is done with the Black Stars and should step aside to create opportunities for emerging talents like Kudus Mohammed," asserted Kuffour. "Dede Ayew has been part of the Black Stars since 2008, and it's time for him to depart. Kudus Mohammed, Kamaldeen Sulemana, and others also deserve a chance to show what they can do."
Kuffour further highlighted that Ayew's younger brother, Jordan Ayew, still has a significant role to play in the national team and has more to offer compared to Andre.
"Andre Ayew has served his time and should give way," stated Kuffour. "His younger brother Jordan is still there and has more to contribute, unlike Dede, who has fulfilled his responsibilities with the senior national team. He should step aside and make room for others as well."
However, Solar Ayew, a self-proclaimed spokesperson for the Ayew family, responded to Osei Kuffour's comments in an interview with Ezra FM.
Solar Ayew's remarks suggested that the 2009 FIFA U-20 World Cup winner, Andre Ayew, has achieved more success in his football career than the former Ghana Premier League star, Kuffour.
"Who is General Osei Kuffour to talk about Dede Ayew, someone who has achieved more than you? I thought it was Samuel Osei Kuffour (Bayern) who was making those statements," Solar Ayew said.
He further expressed his belief that Crystal Palace attacker Jordan Ayew should have been the next captain of the Black Stars after Andre Ayew.
"The rightful successor for the Black Stars captaincy should have been Jordan Ayew, but this is how we Ghanaians handle things, and that's why Jordan is not the captain of the national team."
