Ahead of the much-anticipated Democracy Cup game slated for this midweek, President of the land, H.E Nana Akuffo Addo has rallied behind this initiative and has commended the Speaker of Parliament and the entire legislature for bringing up such an idea.
This game is part of activities marking the 30th anniversary of Ghana's parliamentary democracy themed; '30 Years of Parliamentary Democracy Under the 4th Republic: The Journey Thus Far.'
The Democracy Cup game is between the two giants; Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko- who will battle it out for the enviable and coveted trophy and also the bragging right.
Also, the winner will get to face Major League Soccer side DC United in United States' capital, Washington DC.
Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin and his delegation presented the trophy to the President who out of elation has described the Democracy Cup game as an excellent initiative.
“The commitment that you have made to use it as a vehicle for encouraging popular support for democratic governance in Ghana is an excellent initiative. You are to be congratulated," President Akufo-Addo stated.
"But just merely to reiterate my wholehearted support for this initiative, my congratulations to you for thinking up the idea, and that it's an idea that should last forever and ever and ever. We pray to God that it will be so.”
Initially, the game was scheduled to take place on July 5, but had to be postponed due to unreadiness of both clubs.
It is now slated for Wednesday, July 17, at the Ohene Gyan Stadium at 18:00GMT.
