Veteran gaffer, Joseph Emmanuel Sarpong has reiterated that, it is very impossible for the Black Stars to win the next AFCON and added that can only happen as a miracle.
The experienced gaffer is premissing his arguments mainly on the recent performance of the senior national team which has honestly been very poor.
The four-time African champions suffered two defeats in this international window, having lost 2-0 to Mexico in Charlotte over the weekend and topped up with another embarrassing 4-0 loss to the USA in Nashville last Wednesday.
Speaking on Sompa FM in Kumasi, J.E Sarpong says it will be very difficult for Ghana to win the 2023 AFCON and furthered on by saying all Ghanaians should lower their trust in the team as it stands.
"At the moment, it is impossible for Ghana to win the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), which is a fact. It will even take a miracle for Ghana to qualify for the next round of the tournament.
"In our group, everyone is talking about Egypt because they are the most successful team in the AFCON but they seem to be struggling recently and I think the focus should be on Cape Verde and Mozambique.
"In our case, we have lost to Comoros and have been struggling to win games so it will be difficult for Ghana to win the AFCON tournament in Ivory Coast.
"I will implore Ghanaians to lower their expectations because it will take a miracle for us to qualify for the next round of the tournament. We are not the favourite to win the tournament," he added.
The Black Stars are drawn in Group B alongside seven-time winners Egypt, Cape Verde and Mozambique.
The 2023 Africa Cup of Nations is scheduled to kickoff on January 13, and end on February 11, 2024 in Ivory Coast.
