John Mahama, the Flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has vowed to enhance sports infrastructure nationwide if elected.

The country has been grappling with a lack of adequate sports facilities, many of which are now deteriorating.

In a press conference on Sunday evening, the former President outlined his dedication to resolving these challenges.

“I will not stand here and promise that we will build a new stadium, but I have said that under the Big Push, we intend to spend a certain amount of money over five years on providing good infrastructure including roads, bridges, agro-industrial parks, and so on and so forth, that could include sports facilities,” he stated.

“As part of the 24-hour economy, sports can play a very good part, and we will invest in sports facilities and help the private sector engage in sports facilities to provide service at night so our people can enjoy that service," he added.

At present, the Borteyman and Legon Sports Complex, which were built for the 2023 African Games, are the only venues sufficiently equipped to host major multi-sport events.
