The Ghana Football Association is continuing its major shake-up of the Black Stars technical team, with reports that high-performance coach John Paintsil has been relieved of his duties.

Paintsil, a former defender for West Ham United and Fulham, joined the Black Stars technical team after Otto Addo returned as head coach in March 2024. He had earlier worked as assistant coach before moving into the high-performance role.

His reported departure follows Ghana’s failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, a disappointment that led to a full review of the team’s technical structure.

Several changes have already taken place in recent months. Desmond Ofei was involved during the World Cup qualifying period, while Kim Lars Björkegren and Alain Ravera were later added to the backroom staff as assistant coaches.

The latest move follows the earlier dismissal of head coach Otto Addo and technical advisor Winfried Schäfer after Ghana suffered back-to-back defeats to Austria and Germany during the March international window.

As part of a major reset ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, experienced coach Carlos Queiroz has been appointed on a short-term four-month deal, which will be reviewed after the tournament.

The former coach of Portugal, Iran and Egypt is expected to form his own technical team and officially begin work next month.

Ghana, who will be making their fifth World Cup appearance, have been drawn in Group L alongside Panama, England and Croatia.

The Black Stars will open their campaign on June 17 against Panama, before facing England on June 23 and Croatia on June 27.
