Former Black Princesses head coach Robert Sackey has advocated for the Ghana Football Association to retain Chris Hughton as the head coach for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in January 2024.

Sackey argues that it is too late to bring in a new coach to adequately prepare the team for the tournament in Ivory Coast.

With recent doubts about Hughton's future with the Black Stars, especially after recent results, Sackey emphasized that dismissing Hughton before the tournament could lead to a situation similar to the one faced in 2006.

“We are going toward the end of November, and you are talking about appointing a new head coach. It was the same problem we encountered in 2006,” he remarked in an interview with Asempa FM.

Sackey further explained, “It’s about psyching. How to be able to motivate the players to go and perform. I feel we should keep the coach because it is too late to sack him.”

Despite reports suggesting the possibility of sacking Hughton before the tournament, Sackey advocates for maintaining continuity.
