The Black Galaxies welcomed their opponent's from Nigeria for the last part of the qualifying games for the 2023 CHAN Tournament in Algeria at the Cape Coast Sports Stadium for first leg encounter.

The game started at an electric pace, particularly from the home side who pushed harder to break the nod to unsettle the visiting side but the Nigerians remained intrepid in defense to keep the Ghanaians at bay in the first quarter of the game.

Daniel Afriyie Barnie and Jonah Attuquaye had earlier on missed a crossed from Augustine Randolph inside the 18-yard-box in the 3rd minute.

The game traveled to the 40th minute for Black Galaxies to make another incursion in the game from a free kick that went inside the box but David Abagna Sanda, who came to replace the injured Evans Osei Wasu, header went off target, with his first touch, to keep the game barren on the face of half time.

The game ended 0-0 at half time with the Black Galaxies having a slight upper hand over the Nigerians.

Just after recess, Ghana gained a penalty on the 48th minute and in the presence of the GFA Technical Director, Bernard Lippert, Daniel Afriyie Barnie slotted home with aplomb to give the Black Galaxies the lead on the 50th minute.

David Abagna Sandan blasted the ball over the bar on the 57th minutes after Jonah Attuquaye had taken off his markers around the 18-yard-box. A clear opportunity to extend the lead but was blasted wide.

Both sides added a lot of number upfront in the dying embers of the game to get a meaningful results seeing the visitors making myriad possession with the ball in the final third but failed to score.

With a some sumptuous build up from the Black Galaxies from midfield to attack, youngster Suraj Seidu connected a short pull out by David Abagna Sandan inside the box to give Ghana a two goal lead. The Nigerian goalkeeper could not hold onto the first shot which fell to the scorer to scorebon the 85th minute.

After the mandatory ninety minutes of play and added time, the game ended with 2-0 victory for the Black Galaxies of Ghana ahead of the second leg encounter next week in Abuja.
