The Ghana men U-17 national team kick started the UEFA U-16 Invitational tournament earlier this afternoon with a 3-1 defeat to host Russia in Volgograd.

The Black Starlets were really impressive in the game having played within a very good pattern laid by head coach Laryea Kingston but were very poor up front having wasted the few chances that came their way.

The two-time world champions will use this as preparations towards the WAFU Zone B U-17 Championship which will be held in Ghana in the middle of next month and will also serve as qualification to the Africa Youth Championship.

Going forward, the Starlets will be hoping to improve in terms of goal scoring- one huge part of their game that needs to be checked to make them a real force to reckon with.

Ghana, will play two matches subsequently against Serbia and Kazakhstan to wrap up the competition.
