Ghana's sole representative in this year's CAF Champions League, Medeama SC have booked themselves a place in the group stage of the competition despite a 2-1 loss to Horoya AC in Conakry.
Medeama SC have qualified to the 2023/24 CAF Champions League group stage after winning 4-3 on aggregate in the two-legged fixture against Horoya AC.
Guinean side Horoya AC looked determined for a qualification when they staged a 2-1 comeback win against Medeama SC but their efforts wasn't enough following a 3-1 defeat to the Ghanaian club in first leg tie at the Cape Coast Sports Stadium.
Medeama SC started the game on a good note by launching fearsome attacks on the back line of Horoya AC which eventually aided them to open the scoring before the half-hour mark.
The Yellow and Mauves lads were awarded a spot-kick in the 22nd minute when Joshua Agyemang was fouled in the box by Salif Coulibaly.
Black Stars new striker Jonathan Sowah elected himself to convert the penalty to hand Medeama SC a 1-0 lead in the 24th minute of the game.
Two minutes after conceding, Ghanaian-born Burkina Faso attacker Ocansey Mandela levelled the score for Horoya AC with a fine strike when he capitalized on the visitors' defensive error.
Medeama SC continued their impressive display with the hopes of restoring their lead through attacking duo Joshua Agyemang and Jonathan Sowah but their efforts went futile.
Ocansey Mandela came close to notch up his second goal of the day but his header was brilliantly fisted out by goalkeeper Felix Kyei on the stroke of halftime.
The first half of the match ended in a one-all draw at the Stade GLC.
In the second half, Medeama SC continued to produce a scintillating performance of not conceding more goals when they tamed the host until the 70th minute when Horoya AC took the lead.
Substitute Mohammed Keita handed Horoya AC a 2-1 lead with his cool finish on the 70th minute of the game. His goal wasn't enough to give his side a qualification to the group stage.
Medeama SC becomes the first Ghanaian club to secure a CAF Champions League group stage qualification since 2012.
