The Black Meteors of Ghana managed to hold the Egypt U23 to a 1-1 stalemate in an international friendly at the Alexandria Stadium on Thursday afternoon.
Coach Ibrahim Tanko's side commenced the game on a good note with an intense pressure on the back line of the Egyptians to conceding a penalty after Sporting CP winger Abdul Fatawu Issahaku was fouled in the 18-yard box.
Skipper Daniel Afriyie Barnieh elected himself to brilliantly convert the spot-kick firmly into the back of the net to hand the Black Meteors the lead on the 10th minute of the game.
The Egypt U23 team gained possession to dominate the game with some incursions but Ibrahim Danlad magnificently denied Adel Ibrahim from levelling the score from the spot on the 20th minute.
Asante Kotoko goalkeeper Danlad Ibrahim fisted out the penalty awarded to the Egyptians on the 20th minute after Osama Faisal was brought down in the box by Aaron Essel.
The Egyptians came close once again to restore the parity but a timely block from Nathaniel Adjei denied them from causing any havoc on 34th minute of the game.
On the 40th minute, Talented midfielder Adel Ibrahim snatched the equalizer with a brilliant strike following a defensive error of the Ghana U23 team.
The Black Meteors played the second half of the game with ten men after Zubairu Ibrahim was shown a second yellow card for a horrible tackle on the stroke of halftime.
Despite playing the second half as a manless side, Ghana held on with the one all draw by preventing the upfront of Egypt from earning the match-winner.
Coach Ibrahim Tanko made a tactical substitution with the introduction of Salim Adams, Sylvester Simba, Godwin Bentil and Hafiz Ibrahim for Samari Salifu Abass, Abdul Fatawu Issahaku, Daniel Afriyie Barnieh and Dominic Nsobila respectively.
The Egyptians looked fearsome in the last fifteen minutes of the fixture but the back line of the Ghana team were resolute to deal with all the in roads as the match ended in a 1-1 draw.
The game was a test fixture for both nations as they prepare for the TotalEnegies U-23 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco later this month.
Egypt will go into the tournament as defending champions having won the last edition in 2019.
The Pharaohs are paired with Mali, Gabon and Niger while Ghana are housed in Group B with Morocco, Guinea and Congo.
