President John Dramani Mahama has presented a cash reward of GHC500,000 to the University for Development Studies (UDS) following their remarkable triumph at the FISU World University Football Tournament in China.

The first gentleman of the nation, who is visibly proud of the achievement, described the team’s success as a testament to Ghanaian excellence and a reminder of what the nation’s youth can achieve when given the right opportunities.

"UDS’ victory in the World University Football Tournament is a statement that Ghanaian youth can excel anywhere in the world when given the right support," President Mahama said.

He praised the players and technical team for their commitment, discipline, and determination, which culminated in their historic feat. Presenting the cash reward, he said the gesture was intended to recognise their efforts and encourage continued pursuit of excellence both in sport and academia.

"To the players, I say congratulations. You’ve done yourselves, your university and your country proud," he added.

"But let this win be the foundation. Remain focused on your education, because your success on and off the pitch will inspire many others."
