Former Ghana international Michael Essien has urged the Black Stars to approach the 2026 FIFA World Cup one match at a time.

Ghana will be making their fifth appearance at the World Cup and have been drawn in a challenging Group L alongside Panama, England and Croatia.

Speaking to FIFA, Essien, who played for Ghana at the 2006 and 2014 tournaments, admitted the group will be difficult but said the team must stay focused.

“That’s a tough group. But there are always tough games to play, and it’s up to you to win them,” he said.

“They should take every game as it comes and do their best. It’s a tournament, anything can happen.”

“You just have to make sure you win your games and keep moving. Let’s see what they can do,” Essien added.

Ghana will begin their campaign against Panama on 17 June, before facing England on 23 June and Croatia on 27 June.
