Tamale City head coach Hamza Mohammed says his side are fully prepared to fight for promotion back to the Ghana Premier League ahead of Wednesday’s Division One League playoff against Debibi United.

Mohammed believes playing in what he called the toughest zone in the Access Bank Division One League has made his team stronger and ready for the challenge, despite collecting fewer points than their opponents.

Tamale City qualified from Zone One A with 55 points, while Debibi United finished top of Zone One B with 60 points.

However, Hamza says the difference in points does not show the true quality of his team.

“We had the most difficult zone, so our points do not make us the weaker side. When you play teams like Real Tamale United and the others in our zone, it becomes easier facing teams outside the zone because we are a very good side,” he said.

“We can win, it’s all about our mentality on the day.”

Hamza Mohammed guided Tamale City to promotion during the 2021/22 season and remains confident the club can return to the top flight once again.

Although Tamale City lost 2-1 to Nsoatreman FC in the playoff final that season, they later gained promotion after topping a three-team mini-league to replace AshantiGold SC.

The winner of Wednesday’s playoff at the Accra Sports Stadium will secure the final place in the 2026/27 Ghana Premier League.
