Charles Amofa- Youth and Sports Ministry PRO, has confirmed the National Sports Authority are working tirelessly to secure pitch-covers in the coming weeks to safeguard the pitches of the various stadia in the country.
He made these comments on the back of the irate Ghanaian fans who felt very disappointed after seeing the state of the Baba Yara Stadium after it was rented out for a church crusade over the weekend.
The pitch is currently in a very bad state and won't be able to host any football game until it is put back in shape.
With the Ghana Premier League set to return very soon and the pending Black Stars upcoming 2025 AFCON qualifiers, including the CAF Champions League and Confederations Cup, Charles Amofa has confirmed the NSA are definitely putting things in place to make sure the state of the Kumasi Sports Stadium is back in a good state.
"The truth of the matter is that, the facility is big. Let’s take Accra Sports Stadium for instance all the associations like Boxing, handball, volley, taekwondo, tennis and others use the facility for their activities. Their usage makes us get structural effects and loses”
“All the sporting disciplines can use this facility but what’s worrisome is the resources we need to maintain it has become our challenge. Discussions are ongoing on how to get a dedicated funds for the maintenance of the facility” he said.
“In regards to pitch covering, NSA currently are in discussions with three different companies to get good pitch covers not just temporary ones but rather durable ones which even if there is a car show it won’t affect the grass on the pitch”
"These shows generate a little income for us to maintain the pitch. I’m making a promise to Ghanaians that within a short period, we will get pitch covers which will safeguard our pitches”
