Ghana legend Mohammed Polo is calling for a change in the Black Stars' style of play as they prepare for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast.

The Black Stars have been striving to secure their fifth Africa Cup of Nations title, with their last triumph dating back to 1982. They are determined to end this drought at the upcoming tournament.

For the 2023 AFCON, Ghana's national team, the Black Stars, has been drawn into Group B alongside Egypt, Cape Verde, and Mozambique. The tournament is scheduled to take place from January 13 to February 11, 2024.

In an interview with Koforidua-based Bryt FM, Polo expressed his dissatisfaction with the Black Stars' style of play under Chris Hughton and emphasized the need for changes leading up to the 2023 AFCON tournament.

"We have the players, but in football, it's about teamwork. Inaki Williams is one of the best strikers we have in the country, but he is struggling to adapt to the national team compared to his club football. All of this is an issue we need to address."

"The Black Stars need a sort of telepathy; I think there should be a change in our style of play ahead of the AFCON tournament. Our players need to embrace the Ghanaian style of football when representing the national team. It will be challenging for us to achieve positive results if players stick to their club-level style."

"We have our brand as a football country, so it would be wise for the players to adhere to that when on international duty," he emphasized.

Ghana is set to kick off their campaign on January 14, 2024, facing Cape Verde, with subsequent matches against Egypt and Mozambique.
