Former Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz has called on Ghanaians to continue supporting the national team players despite the team’s recent poor results.

The Portuguese coach parted ways with the Ghana Football Association (GFA) on Thursday, October 1, just days after the Black Stars suffered a disappointing 4-2 defeat to The Gambia in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

Queiroz had hoped to guide Ghana back to winning ways after a difficult period, but the team’s poor start to the AFCON qualifying campaign increased pressure on his position.

In his farewell statement following his departure, the former Real Madrid manager urged supporters to stand firmly behind the players and help create a positive environment around the team.

“Believe in these players. Protect them. Support them.”

“The talent and potential are there. With unity, support and the right environment, this generation can achieve great things for Ghana.”

Queiroz also expressed gratitude to Ghanaians for their passion and support during his time with the Black Stars.

“To the Ghanaian people and all Black Stars supporters, thank you for your passion, support and warmth. I will always carry Ghana with me with respect and affection.”

The Black Stars are currently bottom of their 2027 AFCON qualifying group after losing their opening two matches — a 2-0 defeat to Côte d’Ivoire in Bouaké and a 4-2 home loss to The Gambia in Accra.

Ghana will be hoping for a turnaround in their next fixtures as they aim to revive their qualification hopes.
