Dan Kwaku Yeboah, a Ghanaian broadcaster, has alleged that former Manchester United coach, Sir Alex Ferguson, threatened Danny Welbeck to reject a call-up to play for Ghana after the forward had agreed to represent the West African country.

Asamoah Gyan, former Black Stars captain, reportedly convinced Welbeck to play for Ghana during their time as teammates at Sunderland.

However, according to Kwaku Yeboah, Ferguson heard about the decision and warned Welbeck that playing for Ghana would mark the end of his Manchester United career.

"Look, Asamoah Gyan singlehandedly was able to convince Danny Welbeck to come and play for Ghana. Danny Welbeck agreed to play for Ghana,” Kwaku Yeboah said.

"Asamoah said a day before the boy decided officially, Sir Alex Fergusson heard about it and threatened him not to play for Ghana because that would be the end of his Manchester United career.”

Although Welbeck's parents are Ghanaian, he represented England at the U16, U17, U18, U19, and U21 levels before playing for the senior team.

He played 42 matches for England between 2011 and 2018, scoring 16 goals, and participated in the 2012 Euros, as well as the 2014 and 2018 World Cup tournaments. Welbeck, a former Arsenal striker, is now playing for Brighton and Hove Albion.
