Ghana men U-20 national team head coach, Desmond Ofei has spoken on different topics ahead of the much-anticipated TotalEnergies U-20 Africa Cup of Nations which commences next week and said their main target is to clinch ultimate

The Ghanaian contingent that comprised of 20 players, technical team members and other officials, left the shores of the country via Kotoka International Airport and arrived in Cairo the same day.

The four-time African champions took a short break after training tour in Morocco before returning to hold another two-weeks in Accra, all part of their preparations towards the competition

The Satellites have been paired in Group C alongside holders Senegal, DR Congo and Central African Republic

Speaking in an interview with CAFOnline.com, the enterprising tactician revealed how the Morocco training tour has been helpful to their preparations. He further stated that their main target is to win the trophy but will have to at least make it out of the group phase

“We started with a local talent identification programme that ran for about five weeks. We looked at a wide pool of players from domestic competitions. Then we went to Morocco for a three-nation tournament which gave us a clearer picture of our core squad. The next phase is all about tactical fine-tuning and strengthening team chemistry”

"Leaving the group stage is our top priority. Then we take it step by step. Of course, the long-term aim is to win the tournament and qualify for the U-20 World Cup but we’ll do that by staying consistent and focused on the process.”

The Black Stars feeder team have conquered Africa on four occasions; 1993, 1999, 2009 and 2021.

Also, Ghana is the only African nation to win the U-20 World Cup in 2009 in Egypt

The 2025 TotalEnergies U-20 Africa Cup of Nations will be held from April 27 - May 18, 2025.
