Jordan Yamoah Amissah, the goalkeeper for Sheffield United, a newly promoted English Premier League team, has received a call-up to the Black Meteors for the upcoming CAF U-23 AFCON, which will take place later this month.

Amissah, formerly a youth player for Borussia Dortmund, has already joined his teammates in camp as they prepare for their journey to Egypt, where they will spend some time before heading to Morocco for the tournament.

Amissah's loan spell at Burton Albion in the English League One, the third tier league, proved to be successful as he stood out as an exceptional performer for the club. His impressive performances caught the attention of Ibrahim Tanko, leading to his call-up for the upcoming tournament.

Ghana's objective in the tournament is to secure a spot in the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, France. Their group stage opponents will be hosts Morocco, Congo Brazzaville, and Guinea.

Ghana last participated in the Olympic Games in 2004 in Greece during the Athens Games, and they are eager to end their 20-year absence and make a long-awaited return.

In the previous edition of the tournament in 2020, held in Japan, the Black Meteors came close to qualifying but suffered a penalty shootout defeat to South Africa in the third-place playoffs.

The tournament is scheduled to commence on June 25 and will conclude on July 8.
