Emmanuel Yeboah was explosive when introduced in the second half against Congo and played a very huge role in firing Ghana to a precious win to set off an explosive start to the 2023 Africa U-23 Cup of Nations.

The Black Stars nearly suffered a heartbeat but held their lead firmly to record a narrow 3-2 win over the young Red Devils in their opening game of the competition at the Prince Moulaye Abdellah Stadium earlier today.

The CFR Cluj striker replaced skipper Daniel Afriyie Barnieh just at the start of the second half and made an instant impact starting with an assist to Ernest Nuamah to set up the opener.

Subsequently he augmented the team's effort with a brace on the 75th and 83rd minute to put the Meteors 3-0 up after 83 minutes. The Congolese scored two in the final five minutes plus additional time but wasn't enough to salvage a point.

In an interview, the stalwart forward feels excited with the win and added they are ready and very focused for their next game.

"We have the coach, the staff, and the players to go all the way; it's up to us to stay focused."

"When I saw the opponents we were going to face, I was delighted because they are powerhouses of African football. It is through such strong opposition that we progress."

“We couldn't afford to falter today against Congo, and we will gain momentum as the tournament progresses." He added

Ghana could book a ticket into the semi final stage if they defeat host nation, Morocco in their next Group A match to be played at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium on Tuesday, June 27, 2023.
