Football fans across the globe, on Saturday, November 11, 2023 were handed a heartbreaking news when Ghanaian striker Raphael Dwamena collapsed and while in action for KS Egnatia against FK Partizani in the Albanian top-flight league.
The 28-year-old went unconscious after just 23 minutes of the game and was rushed to the hospital after efforts by the medical team of both clubs to revive him failed.
He has had heart problem which collapsed his sensational move to English Premier League side Brighton and Hove Albion in 2017.
In 2021, Dwamena collapsed on the pitch in the Austrian Cup when he was playing for Blau-Weiss Linz. The incident resulted the cancellation of his contract.
In the last two seasons, he has been playing for KF Egnatia, a club in the Albanian top division and has scored 24 goals (including three in the Conference League) and 10 assists in less than 40 appearances.
Dwamena was the leading top scorers chart of this season's Albanian top-flight league with nine goals.
He capped eight times for the Black Stars of Ghana and scored two goals.
